A dispute rarely arrives as a clean legal question. It arrives as an unpaid invoice, a blocked access road, a cancelled licence or a notice with a short deadline. The first response often fixes the ground on which the whole case will later be fought.
Delay costs more than time. Limitation periods run, evidence goes stale, and an opponent who moves first for an injunction can shape the case for years.

When can I approach the High Court directly under Article 226?
When a State authority, or a body performing public functions, acts without jurisdiction, arbitrarily or in breach of natural justice. The High Court will usually ask whether an equally effective alternative remedy exists, such as a statutory appeal, before it intervenes.
Is mediation compulsory before filing a commercial suit?
Yes, in most cases. Section 12A of the Commercial Courts Act, 2015 requires pre-institution mediation for commercial suits that do not seek urgent interim relief, and the Supreme Court has held the requirement to be mandatory.
How soon must I act on a bounced cheque?
The legal notice must be sent within 30 days of receiving the bank's return memo. The drawer then has 15 days to pay, and the complaint must be filed within one month after those 15 days end.
How long do I have to file a suit to recover money?
For most money claims the Limitation Act, 1963 allows three years from the date the cause of action arises. The exact starting point depends on the transaction, so it is worth checking early.
Can a judgment from a foreign court be enforced in India?
Judgments of superior courts in reciprocating territories, such as the United Kingdom, Singapore and the UAE, can be executed in India under Section 44A of the Code of Civil Procedure. Judgments from other countries usually need a fresh suit based on the foreign judgment.
